一、充分準備，打好基礎。
為了提高書面表達水平，平時應加強閱讀，多背誦一些句形、段落甚至短文。俗話說：讀書破萬卷，下筆如有神，只有多讀，多記，多背誦，才能出口成章，下筆成文。此外，還要掌握一些應用文體的寫作方法，如書信、日記、通知等，它們大多有固定的格式。
二、認真審題，明確要求
仔細看清寫作要求和提示，分清材料的主次，接著確定體裁、格式和人物、地點等要素；最后確定時態，同時考慮相關的`語態搭配用法。
三、遣詞造句、表達規范
用詞要恰當，不可逐句把提示翻譯成英語。寫作時，應盡量選用你最熟悉、最有把握的詞和句型來表達思想。如果有些單詞不會些，有些句型不會表達，可以設法繞開，用熟悉的同義詞、同義短語或同義句來代替。要學會善于運用適當的關聯詞，如and,or,but,so，because,since等，以使行文邏輯緊密，自然流暢。
四、認真撰寫，卷面整潔
如果考試時間允許，書面表達一定要先寫草稿。在抄寫入答題卷前，要先進行檢查修改。首先檢查所寫內容是否切題；之后檢查主題是否明確，表達方式是否恰當；最后檢查所用時態、語態、人稱是否符合要求，前后是否一致。
英語作文卷面要求：
1.標題應寫在第一行的中央。標題中的每一個實詞的第一個字母均應大寫。
2.段與段之間，一般不空行，但每段第一行應縮進3–4個字母所占的位置。
3.書寫要工整，字體稍大，詞間距離要一致，行間距離要一致，盡量避免一個單詞隔行書寫。
