College is always considered as a turning point in our educational career and life. I would use adaptationas the key word when describing my first year at college.
As we enter a new school, we first have to adapt a new environment and meet new people.As we leave home and move into the school dormitory, we need to learn to live and get along with other people who have different living habit. And as we start a higher level education, we need to adopt a new way of study. Teachers are no more like the ones in high school that will push us to learn.
Instead, we have more options and spare time to do what we want.
I am glad that I have overcome the difficulties and adapted the new life of college. I have achieved a lot more than I expected at my first year of college. First of all, I have made new friends who share the same hobbies and met new teachers who inspire me in all way. Secondly, I have become more independent. I have got used to a new way of study and often study different things by myself. I can take care of myselfwithout parents being by my side all the time. Last but not least, I have learnt to make full use of my time. I believe time management is a very essential skill in college life as we have more freedom than ever before. It has helped me not to waste time and turned me into a well-organized person.
My first year at college is excellent and I really appreciate all that I have learnt this year.

These two pie charts show the difference in the sources of income between Chinese and American students. We can see that Chinese students get 90 percent of their income from their parents, however, American students get only 50 percent from their parents. Besides, Chinese students get only 5 percent of their income from doing part time jobs and another 5 percent from scholarships while money from part time jobs and scholarships for American students amount to 35 and 15 percent respectively.
From the above analysis, we can easily come to the following three conclusions. The first conclusion is that Chinese parents like to take more care of their children. They＇d rather work harder and live thriftily in order to provide their children with everything they need. American parents, on the other hand, like to pay more attention to the development of their children＇s ability to be independent. They＇d rather encourage their children to support themselves. The second conclusion is that Chinese students are more dependent on their parents whereas American students are more dependent on themselves. Lastly, there are fewer people in America, so it is easier for students to findapart time job. However, in China, such chances are rare since we have so many people looking for jobs.

If one has friends from different fields, these friends will help him with his personal development in the future. Third, taking part-time jobs can reduce the financial pressure. Many college students still ask their parents for money. This can be a heavy burden to some families. But if the students can do some part-time jobs and make money on their own, the family pressure can be relieved to some extent. Last but not least, part-time jobs can help students to find out their strengths and shortcomings. When they overcome the difficulties, they will become more confidence.
